A local business woman has declared her candidacy for state representative from the 134th House District, comprising sections of Fairfield and Trumbull.

Debbie Blanchard, the founder and owner of Blanchard Business Services, an accounting resources firm, would take on incumbent Republican Rep. Tony Wang if she is the party's nominee in the November election.

"I know what it is like to juggle kids and home and run a small business," Blanchard said in a statement announcing her candidacy. "Connecticut families are struggling, and I live that struggle every day. We need to get Connecticut citizens back to work. We need to raise the bar on our education outcomes and keep young people working in Connecticut.

"As a small business owner, I know what it takes to grow a business. Connecticut's economic recovery will hinge on new jobs created by new small businesses. I have done it, and I know how to make it work," she added. "We need to level the playing field for small businesses by lowering their costs of doing business. I have spent 25 years saving small businesses money, and I will take that experience with me to Hartford."

Blanchard, a member of the Fairfield Board of Assessment Appeals, is also the treasurer of the Fairfield PTA Council's Executive Board as well as the Stratfield PTA.

A life-long resident of Fairfield, Blanchard lives in the Stratfield section of Fairfield with her husband Sylvain. Her older children, Jon and Jenifer, are graduates of the Fairfield public schools, while her youngest, Sebastien, 7, still attends Stratfield School.
