'Fired at 50' at Westport Library
Updated 1:04 pm, Tuesday, June 7, 2011
Two executive coaches will discuss their upcoming book, "Fired at 50," Tuesday at 10 a.m. in Westport Public Library's McManus Room, 20 Jesup Road.
Tucker Mays and Bob Sloane, co-founders of OptiMarket LLC, will offer advice on how to overcome challenges in this job market by giving a clearly defined process for over-50 jobseekers to find a job in the shortest time possible.
Of those unemployed for more than a year, the over-50 group now represents a significantly higher percentage -- 30 percent -- than any younger segment of the population. According to the latest labor statistics, the time it takes executives over 50 years old to find a job has also increased, to well over a year.
Mays began his career in Wall Street with Goldman Sachs, and then moved to the consumer products industry to pursue marketing.
Sloane has held senior management roles with Colgate-Palmolive and American Cyanamid's Shulton International division. He has been a consultant for IBM and the White House.
